Calendar alerts

A short email when a document on the decision calendar changes.

Decisions about time are made in documents that change quietly. The effective date for the end of the leap second, 20 May 2027, entered the record as one line in the version history of a draft resolution and was not separately announced. Alerts exist so that a change like that reaches the people who need it in days rather than months.

What an alert contains

An alert is sent when a document behind an entry on the decision calendar is published, revised or re-issued, or when a new date enters the record. That includes the CGPM draft resolutions and the texts adopted, IERS bulletins on leap seconds, and NASA’s lunar time strategy. Each alert says what changed, in plain terms, and links the document itself.

Alerts are sent only when something changes. There is no newsletter and no schedule.

How to sign up

Write to editor@sothic.org with the subject line Alerts. To stop, reply stop to any alert.

Alerts are free while the service is being established. If a paid service is introduced, the price will be $100 a year for an individual and $1,000 a year for an organization of up to ten people. No one will be charged without first agreeing to it.

Addresses are used only to send alerts. They are not shared or sold.
